Sunday Sounds #8

It's been nearly 3 months since I last did a "Sunday Sounds"?!  That's crazy!! I need to pick up the game.  Anyways, I have been listening to a lot of music recently, so here are some new ones that I have literally been playing non-stop.  Literally.

1. Avalanche Walk the Moon
By the same guys who sang the amazing hit Shut Up and Dance, this song has a very throwback vibe to it, which I have been LOVING in songs recently.  Very summer-y.  I can definitely tell that Walk the Moon are going to become more and more popular and I can't wait to hear all of their music. (ps.  I actually thought this was The 1975 the first time I heard it!)

2. Shots Imagine Dragons
I have actually been obsessed with all Imagine Dragons songs, but when they're new album "Smoke and Mirrors" came out, I wasn't CRAZY about it...But after going to their concert a couple of weeks ago, I think I fell in love with it.  This is one that I find myself singing a long to in the grocery store like a crazy lady.  (But that's ok).

3. Beautiful Now Zedd
I'm actually a long time lover of Zedd's songs, particularly Clarity, which has been out for quite a while not.  His new album True Colors is amazing and I love what I've heard do far.  This is a song that I have been playing on repeat as well.  GOOD JOB, ZEDD.

What are some of your favorite songs that you have been enjoying recently?

Talk to you sooooooooonnnnnn!!

Five things I am trying very hard to accept

1. Your skin and body may never be perfect, and that's okay.  As long as you're happy.

2.  Life is too short to not buy that cute dress that makes you feel fabulous, that delicious cake, and the haircut that you have always wanted to try.  Maybe even try a new color! As long as you're happy.

3.  Everyone (including your family, co-workers, and even your best friend) will talk about you behind your back, and you will talk about people behind their back.  This doesn't mean that you love each other any less.  As long as you're happy.

4. It's okay to spend money on yourself every once and a while.  It's not a bad thing to treat yourself whether that be a spa day, getting your nails, buying something new, or even just reading a book.  As long as you're happy.

5. Sometimes without reasons, relationships will fall apart.  And that's life.  Some relationships are toxic for you and you are better off without it.  As long as you're happy.

As long as you're happy.

Love you guys,

This is important.

Daily reminder to make sure that you drink enough water.  Water is so so so important and you body needs it to function properly.  Not to mention, it helps keep your skin clear, your eyes moist, and your heart beating.

When my grandma was alive, towards the end she developed severe dementia (a form of alzheimer's) which makes her forget a lot of things.  Like faces, and names, and people.

My entire family put up pictures around her room of us drink water to remind her to do the same.  It is incredible how the human brain can forget how to do some of the simplest task, such as drinking water.  Please make sure, that if you have a loved one with alzheimer's, that they get enough fluids to stay hydrated.

Thank you for reading my little ramblings about something stupid but also something important to me.

Learning vs. Education

This is something that I have wanted to talk about for a very long time.

Get ready for some OPINIONS!!

As a college student, I just wanted to say how lucky I am to be able to go to a good college and just LEARN.  It is a privilege that I do not take lightly.  I realize that a lot of people don't have the opportunity/have other options beside going to college, and that's okay!  I just want to put this out there that you don't have to necessarily have to go to college to learn.  Our own experiences in life provide us with many opportunities to learn.  I love learning and I am a strong believer that we are continuously learning throughout our lives, and even when we are out of school, the learning never stops.

That being said, I wanted to address the idea of learning vs. education.  Learning and education are two very different things.  To put it simply, I think that the education system in this country is completely wrecked.  School should be a place where people want to go, a place that nurtures creativity and individuality, somewhere where people be excited to learn! But it's not.  Instead, it is a place that a vast majority of students absolutely dread to go to, along with forced standardized tests. They are rewarding people who do what they are told, at all costs.  Because they trick us into believing that if we follow rules, don't question authority, and do well on tests, we will be rewarded with success.  This may be true in some instances, but it is not an absolute.  I recently read a speech on the internet about this idea that really inspired me to think about all of this.  It is by Erica Goldson, a high school valedictorian a couple years back and I think it was really well said.  I will link the speech here! (Please take a look!)  Once I read this, I realized something...this was me.  I was a robot of the education system.  Instead of exploring hobbies that I had or utilizing my creativity, I spent all of my time studying, taking notes, doing extra credit that I didn't need!
I thought this picture summed of perfectly my feelings of the education system.

Not to say that this is necessarily bad, but this level of "robot"-anation (I'm just making up words now haha!) did nothing for me except for teaching me how to study for a test, only to forget what I had learned 2 days later to make room for the next test.  Is this what education has become?  If it is, I think we are in some serious trouble.

But, how can we fix it?  This is a serious question and I'm going to be honest, I haven't the slightest idea.  Maybe to start things off, stop putting so much pressure on kids to pass all of those stupid standardized exams!  They mean nothing and it only test how well you can take a test.  It is not a measure of your intelligence, it does not signify who you are. At all.  But that's the way it is set up.  Life is more than just being able to pass a test.

Okay.  Phewww.  I'm glad I got this off my chest.  I feel so much better now.

You are all creative, inspiring, caring, wonderfully talented individuals who are going to change the world.  I just know it.  Everybody better watch out :)  & Remember - never stop learning!
